Guy Reschenthaler, a Pennsylvania Republican, introduced a bill late last week to rename Washington Dulles International Airport, which was named after former Secretary of State John Foster Dulles. Speaker Mike Johnson just passed a "clean" government funding bill with mostly Democratic votes. But no one's eager to go through another speaker fight, and the hard right's cutting him some slack. If so, that's because it's essentially the same thing that triggered the end of Kevin McCarthy's speakership in October. But that hasn't been enough to mollify critics on the hard right, including one who described it as "[perpetuating] the very system my constituents sent me here to oppose." And Republicans scheduled a second members-only conference meeting for Thursday evening. The House voted to vacate the Office of the Speaker on Tuesday, booting Kevin McCarthy from his job. The House, under interim speaker Rep. Patrick McHenry of North Carolina, will now have to hold speaker elections once again, and it's not clear where that will lead. In 1910, House Speaker Joseph Cannon called the motion himself as he faced a mutiny from his own party, daring his own members to oust him. "I don't see the support in the House" for the Senate plan, McCarthy said, though the bill has the support of Senate Republicans, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. "Speaker McCarthy, the only way - the only way - out of a shutdown is bipartisanship," Schumer said in a speech to the Senate. A new analysis found that 92% of House Republicans have voted with MTG over 90% of the time this year. According to the report, 92% of House Republicans have voted with the Georgia Republican more than 90% of the time. "The House Republican shift toward this MAGA extremism has been led and overtly approved by Speaker McCarthy himself," concludes the report. CAP Action's analysis identified six House members who have voted with Greene 97% of the time — more than any other House Republicans. It's true that McCarthy voted with Greene 96% of the time, but it's also true that Greene voted with McCarthy 96% of the time — as did most House Freedom Caucus members.
